KiDSMARATHON is accepting registrations for the 2016 program. Structured around an eight to ten week training program following a booklet of healthy living suggestions while keeping track of their mileage toward the 26.2 mile goal. The program’s author is Rod Dixon, a former long distance runner from New Zealand and winner of the New York City marathon. Schools can begin and implement the program in a variety of settings, but the ideal start time is the third week of March. Rod Dixon, a father (and grandfather!) runner who founded Kid’s Marathon Foundation, an in-school running and nutrition program that gets kids moving. In his delightful Kiwi accent, Rod shares stories about his start in running and how his experience lead him to help “keep kids calibrated” by bringing running into their school day. Read on... As posted in Litchfield.bz - 01-31-16, The first-ever Litchfield Hills Farmers Forum was held at Wamogo Regional High School on Saturday. More than 100 attendees, most of them farmers from northwest Connecticut, came to learn more about issues facing farmers and producers. The event was hosted by The Farmer’s Table, a program of the non-profit Partners for Sustainable Healthy Communities. For the past five years the annual Farmer’s Table dinners have been held throughout northwest Connecticut to raise funds to support regional farmers. Local producers began to identify multiple areas of concern and topics of interest.
